The 10 Best Breweries in New Jersey!

Breweries have been popping up all across New Jersey over the past decade. It’s a great way to support a local business and try some new brews. Located all over the state, breweries offer tours and tastings for their creations. Take a growler home if you really enjoy a beer. Beers of all types can be ordered from stouts to IPAs. Take a visit to the breweries below and learn how the beer is made and what inspired them! 

1. River Horse Brewing Company, Ewing Township, NJ

This well-known craft brewery was started by some former finance guys who decided beer was their new calling. Walking tours are available on weekends and private tours are available on request. Their goal is to get as much flavor into their beers as possible.

2. Flying Fish Brewing Co., Somerdale, NJ

Flying Fish has specialty beers, seasonal beers and more. You can find them on tap at local bars or in bottles at your local store. They were the first microbrewery in New Jersey and brew their beers in an environmentally manner.

3. Cypress Brewing Co., Edison, NJ

Open from about 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. most nights, Cypress uses a two-barrel brewing system and functions as a nano brewery. Their ever-changing beers include every kind from ales to IPAs and stouts. Current beer selections can be found on their website.

4. Demented Brewing Company, Middlesex, NJ

New to the brewing scene, this location mostly has their beers onsite in their own tasting room with plans to release canned versions. Their focus is on seasonal ales but they also make cream ales, stouts and more.

5. Harvest Moon Brewery & Cafe, New Brunswick, NJ

Harvest Moon is a special two-in-one with their creative menu of food that accompanies their own in-house brews of beer. The casual yet chic location is perfect for weekend dinner and throwing back a couple pints.

6. J.J. Bitting Brewing Company, Woodbridge, NJ

This microbrewery is a local source of pride started in 1997 with a full bar, tap room, and main dining room. Whether you’re a single adult or have kids, the place is friendly to all. A hearty menu accompanies their many beer options.

7. Flounder Brewing Co., Hillsborough, NJ

This family-owned nano brewery started in a small apartment in Lyndhurst that finally expanded into a company where it is now. Tours are limited to a few a month and must be reserved. Check their site to see what nearby locations carry their brews.

8. Trap Rock Restaurant & Brewery, Berkeley Heights, NJ

Trap Rock’s casual, rustic setting perfectly complements its beer selection and menu which are both made with care and quality. The nano brewery pumps out a select handful of beers that can be ordered in-house or taken home in growlers.

9. Kane Brewing, Ocean Township, NJ

Located on the jersey shore, Kane Brewing creates craft beers that are American and Belgian-inspired ales. Self-guided tours can be scheduled on the weekends.

10. Belford Brewing Company, Belford, NJ

This intimate brewery in the heart of Belford takes care with their craft beers that only started in 2014. They offer a selection of five core beers and an accompanying rotation of other flavors.
